Slowly but surely we have been seeking out plants more often…
You may have noticed that we’ve been phasing in more and more vegetables onto our menu, and yes, it's been purposeful. We've all been reading the same stuff about the environment and eating less animal products is key to a more sustainable future, so we felt the need to steer in this direction.
Ironic, we know, for a restaurant called LARDO.
And we still do cater for meat-eaters, we’re just equally enthusiastic exploring the wonderful world of veg and vegetarian food with our customers. We’re excited that our new menu is 75% vegetarian; from our Aubergine polpettes, tomatoes with white almond dressing, to our hazelnut gnudi, we’re always trying and experimenting. There are so many different ways to transform the staples of Italian cuisine into something delicious, exciting and new.
Speaking of staples, we are of course, always looking for ways to explore our deep love for pizza and pasta in vegetarian directions.
The southern Italians were highly creative with the way they used what they had available, and we’d like to think we’re continuing in a similar vein of resourcefulness and creativity. The magic of flour and water, an alchemy humanity has a seemingly tireless enthusiasm for, continues to inspire us daily. They really were onto a truly great thing, and our new spring menu seeks to pay homage to them, whilst pushing things in a fresh direction.
Our new pizzas: cherry tomato, chilli, smoked tomato with stracciatella / and sweet onion, artichoke, gremolata, rocket and pine nut should tick the boxes for even the most demanding vegetarian pizza aficionados. For the classicists amongst you, don’t worry, we still love the perfect simplicity of a quintessential margarita, and it will forever anchor our pizza menu to history.
So, whether you’re carnivorous, vegan, an environmentalist, simply health concerned, pescatarian or on a weekday vege regime - we like to think that our menu is so varied and engaging that you forget that it isn’t as heavy on the meat. Returning to our original core value of being a neighbourhood restaurant, basically we like to think everyone is equally at home here.
